I'm not sure that either "place of many fishes" or "where waters converge" are proper translations of this name. I've found a source that says that "Sho-kan' was sometimes written Ashokan, and is now a village in Olive. It was called Shokaken in the Marhletown records of 1677, and was often mentioned. It may be derived from chogan, a black-bird, or sokan, to cross the creek, the last being preferable." [1][2] -- Gaurav (talk) 21:25, 28 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
